About Don’t Doodle It

Don’t Doodle It was started to raise awareness about the unethical breeding practices of popular “doodle” and designer breed mixes, including Sheepadoodles, Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, Poochons, Cavapoochons, Yorkiepoos, Maltipoos, Bernedoodles, Pomskys, Puggles, and the list goes on and on. The popularity of these breeds, especially the doodle varieties, have sky-rocketed. It is almost impossible to walk around a dog park and not see at least one “doodle”.

The Reality

The ugly truth behind these “breeds” is that they’re really just mutts, they are not breeds, they have no real standard, they are not recognized by any legitimate kennel club, and they are not ethical to breed. ever. Doodle breeders often include lies like “hypoallergenic” or “family pet” as part of their sales pitch but these claims have no truth behind them. There is no such thing as a true hypoallergenic dog, but doodles definitely aren’t even close to it, often times a doodle is a mix of a poodle and a high-shedding breed (ie. Golden Retrievers, Bernese Mountain Dogs, or Old English Sheepdogs). Just because these dogs are mixed with the low-shedding poodle does not mean that they will be low-shedding, and that’s the real truth behind doodles, there is no way to know. Because of the lack of standard, doodle breeders have no standard or purpose to breed towards, unlike an ethical purebred breeder.
